Titans take on the Thunder
D-V-E competes with top Region 3 Hatton-Northwood
The Drayton-Valley-Edinburg Titans gave the Hatton-Northwood Thunder a handful of things to think about in the upcoming regional tournament barring any unforeseen upsets along the way. The Titans took the Thunder to four games but came up short with a 3-1 loss to end their regular season on Monday.
The Titans jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead in game one that prompted an early timeout by Thunder coach Cyndee Strand. The strategy worked to stop the Titans’ rally at 8-4 and that put the ball in the hands of Jordan Johnson for a run of 5 points to put the Thunder up 9-8.
At the 14-11 mark with the Titans trailing, the Thunder again served up eight straight to take control 21-11. The Titans fought back at the end of the game but could not close the deficit to any less than eight point thus losing game one by a score of 25-17.
In game two the teams battled back and forth until the Titans built a five point lead at 17-12. The Thunder closed the gap to three at 21-18 but the Titans held on to win the second game 25-18.
Hatton-Northwood came out in game three and jumped out to a 4-0 lead but quickly gave it up as the Titans tied the game at 9-9. The Titans took the lead at 12-11 but stalled out and Samantha Janda served eight straight points to give the Thunder a 19-12 lead. The enthusiastic crowd willed the Titans to fight back and come within one point of the Thunder at 21-20, but in the end the Thunder pulled out the 25-20 win to go up 2-1.
Game four was taken over by the Hatton-Northwood front line of Samantha Janda and Jordan Johnson after the Titans jumped out to a 4-1 lead. After three small runs by the Thunder, they led by 10 at 21-11 and eventually cruised to a 25-13 win to take the match 3-1.
