Grafton participates in first matches
The Grafton Spoilers wrestling team opened up the season with a road trip this past weekend. The following is a recap of this weekend’s matches.
May-Port-CG 45, Grafton 30
Grafton picked up a few weight class wins by pin against the Patriots Friday.
In the 113 pound weight class, Hector Reyes pinned opponent Konner Elliott in 35 seconds.
At 160 pounds, Josh Thompson pinned Konner’s brother Keegan in 1:23.
Grafton’s last lone pin came in the 285 pound weight class, when Michael Moran pinned Nathan Erickson of M-P-CG in 1:28.
Grafton’s other wins came via forfeit in the 145 and 152 pound weight classes.
Becker 34, Grafton 25
Grafton then took on Becker, and saw some more success in that dual.
Thompson picked up a 11-4 decision against Becker’s Nick Wamre in the 152 pound weight class.
At 106 pounds, Dalton Hannesson won by major decision, 10-2, over Sanden O’Connel of Becker.
Grafton won by forfeit in the 126 and 285 pound weight classes.
Grafton 42, West Fargo 34
Grafton’s first of two team wins came against the West Fargo Packers.
Jaron Lunday picked up the first Spoiler pin against the Packers, in a grueling 5:21 match against Ndimibandi Raphael.
That pin was followed up by a quick 38 second pin of Chris Cornette by Josh Thompson.
Michael Moran was the final Spoiler to win by pinning his opponent, Zach Willis, in just 59 seconds.
Grafton picked up forfeit wins in the 106, 113, 126 and 195 pound weight classes.
Grafton 43, LaMoure 42
The Spoilers squeaked out their second team win of the weekend in a tightly contested match against the LaMoure wrestling team.
Josh Thompson picked up the team’s first pin, a 30 second win over Landon Smith of LaMoure.
The Spoilers won by tiebreaking criteria.
According to Grafton head coach Brad Larson, the dual was actually tied, but the Spoilers came across with the victory in the end.
“We won because we had the most takedowns scored first in the match,” he said.
D-G-F 60, Grafton 21
Grafton picked up a few pins against Minnesota foe D-G-F, but it wasn’t enough as they lost 60-21.
Josh Thompson picked up the first pin, a 40 second win over Dallas Kern.
Michael Moran pinned his opponent, Brady Butcher, in 29 seconds.
Hector Reyes won in a decision against Jacob Arends, 6-2.
In the dual’s final match, Grafton’s Jaron Lunday defeated Trent Dufault with a 39 second pin.
Pelican Rapids 58, Grafton 16
The Spoilers wrapped up the weekend with a dual against Pelican Rapids.
Grafton picked up back-to-back wins, as Jaron Lunday won by major decision over Robert Mazariegos, 18-6.
Following that performance, Josh Thompson pinned Guillermo Rosiles in 1:42.
Hector Reyes picked up the last Spoiler win at 113 pounds by pinning James Furey in 1:02.
