Grafton cross country runs well at regionals
Spoilers take fourth and fifth in Cooperstown
The Grafton Spoilers’ Cross Country teams faired well at the North Dakota Class B East Regional Meet held in Cooperstown last Saturday.
Josh Thompson was the Spoilers’ top finisher taking third place overall with a time of 17:51 minutes. David Suda finished twelfth at 18:35 and Seth Helgeson finished with a time of 20:18 for a 37th place finish to round out the boys’ top three.
The boys’ team finished fifth overall with a score of 209.
“We did fairly well considering Kenneth Longtine has been sick for almost three weeks and just got back last Wednesday. He usually runs with David Suda so if he was healthy we possibly could have finished higher in the region,” said Spoilers’ coach Jeff McKay.
The Spoilers boys’ team is expected to do well this next weekend at the state meet in Valley City.
“I hope Kenneth can get his strength back this week and maybe we will finish in the top five as a team,” McKay added.
The Grafton girls’ top finisher in the regional was Jessica Johnson who finished in 20th place with a time of 16:45. Claire Suda finished 36th with a time of 17:46 and Amy Horter had a time of 17:47 for a 47th place finish.
As a team, they finished in fourth place with a score of 189.
“The girls should also have a strong run at state and we expect a top five performance from them,” said McKay.
The 2013 NDHSAA State Cross Country Meet will be held this Saturday at Valley City’s Bjornson Park Golf Course with the Class B boys starting at 2:15 p.m. and the Class B girls starting at 3:00 p.m.
